Regina grew up singing harmony in the back seat of the car with her 3 other sisters and never lost her love for singing. From specials at church on Sundays, to Emmaus Praise teams, trios, duos, weddings and special occasions, she has used her God given gift throughout her life. She was one of the main vocalist in a 5 piece band in the Hill Country for 12 years as well as a Country trio and is now happy as a lark singing lead vocals and harmony with her soulmate (husband) in a duo named Checkmate.

Terry grew up in a family that loved music. His oldest brother taught him how to play the bass when he was 9 years old. He played in bands over the years ranging from country, oldies americana, gospel, and in a gospel recording studio. He didn't take on singing in a band until around 2012, and now he sings lead vocals and harmony. He loves singing a wide variety of music styles. He also loves to play with all the tech gear. Most of all, he loves making music with his soulmate (wife) in a duo named Checkmate.
Old friends from West Texas
Terry and Regina were classmates from small a town in West Texas and played music together in the 70s as friends, and are now playing music together in the hill country as husband and wife.
Having played in the hill country for 12 years as a part of a 5 piece band, and the last year and half with a country Trio, they are once again making music in the Texas Hill Country area, only this time as a duo called Checkmate.
Checkmate is a variety Duo that covers a large range of music genres that includes soft rock, country, pop, and Americana.
